PROWLER RACING CHASSIS
PROWLER RACING CHASSIS
ON THE RIGHT SIDE - 2 1 ¼ LOCK COLLARS
ON THE LEFT SIDE 1 SET SCREW
THIS IS ONE WAY TO INSTALL A NEW REAR AXLE IN YOUR KART 1. MEASURE BOTH SIDES OF THE AXLE SO THAT YOU HAVE THE SAME DISTANCE FROM EACH BEARING HANGAR TO THE END OF THE AXLE ON EACH SIDE. 2. USING THIS MEASUREMENT ON LEFT SIDE OF THE AXLE ONLY PLACE A MARK ON THE LEFT BEARING FLANGE SET SCREW HOLE SO THAT YOU WILL KNOW WHERE TO DRILL A HOLE HALFWAY THROUGH THE AXLE. 3. SLIDE THE AXLE TO THE RIGHT TO WHERE YOUR MARK IS AND DRILL WITH 1/8” DRILL BIT ALL THE WAY TO THE CENTER OF THE AXLE. 4. USE A ¼” DRILL BIT TO DRILL THROUGH THE HOLE THAT YOU DRILLED IN STEP 3 , BUT ONLY HALFWAY THROUGH THE DISTANCE OF WHAT YOU DRILLED WITH THE 1/8” DRILL BIT. YOU DO NOT WANT TO DRILL ALL THE WAY THROUGH AS YOU DID IN THE THIRD STEP. 5. CLEAN THE EDGE OF THE HOLE WITH A SMALL FILE. 6. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR BRAKE ROTOR AND GEAR HUB ON THE AXLE. 7. SLIDE THE AXLE TO THE LEFT AND SCREW THE SET SCREW INTO THE DRILLED HOLE OF THE FLANGE OF THE LEFT REAR BEARING. BOTH REAR BEARING FLANGE FACE TO THE INSIDE. 8. INSTALL 1 ¼” LOCK COLLARS ON EACH SIDE OF THE RIGHT AXLE BEARING.
IInner Ring
IN ADDITION TO HOLDING THE AXLE BEARING IN PLACE THE INNER RING ALLOWS FOR A MORE PRECISE FIT AND TOLERANCE OF THE REAR BEARING WHICH IS HOUSED IN THE REAR BEARING CASSETTE. IT IS IMPORTANT TO INCLUDE CLEANING AND INSPECTING THE CASSETTE INNER RINGS IN YOUR REGULAR MAINTENANCE ROUTINE. ROUTINE MAINTENANCE WILL PROLONG THE LIFE OF THE INNER RINGS AS THEY BECOME WORN FROM NORMAL USE AND IF NOT CLEANED THEIR LIFE SPAN IS SHORTENED. SIGNS THAT THE INNER RING HAS BEEN WORN IS THE PLAY FROM SIDE TO SIDE IN BEARING CASSETTE WHICH WILL TRANSLATE INTO POOR RACING PERFORMANCE INDICATING THE NEED TO REPLACE THE INNER RING. YOU COULD REPLACE THE AXLE BEARING ALSO. REPLACING THE INNER BEARING REQUIRES DISASSEMBLING THE BEARING CASSETTE AND REMOVING THE BEARING AND INSTALLING THE NEW AXLE BEARING AND INNER RING TOGETHER . REASSEMBLE THE BEARING CASSETTE MAKING SURE THAT ALL FASTENERS HAVE BEEN TIGHTENED.
